Christa Joo Hyun D’Angelo

from: 01.01.1970

Christa Joo Hyun D’Angelo is an American artist based in Berlin.

D’Angelo attended The Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore Maryland studying under TJ Demos while majoring in Painting and minoring in Anthropology before quitting to attend The Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow Poland. Upon graduation she moved to Berlin.

The artist’s work investigates the presence of commodity fetishism in our cultural consciousness through a process that deconstructs society’s insatiable visual appetite by appropriating and altering images intended for the masses from commercial branding, fashion and celebrity culture. With juxtapositions and a subtractive editing process, D’Angelo highlights the mechanisms of seduction used in worldwide advertising appeals.

D’Angelo has been featured in various publications such as I Love You Magazine, The Huffington Post, The New York Times, Kenzo’s Kenzine, and Art in America and has exhibited at September Gallery, Preview Artfair in Berlin, Volta NY Artfair, and The Korean Culture Center of Germany.
