Klaus Hu

Unsettled Landscapes

from: 01.01.1970

In his studio in Berlin, Klaus Hu works across different media with research based topics and mapping strategies. His work is informed by archival research as well as traditional studio-based techniques; juxtaposing historical material with contemporary and critical investigations upon global / local issues of identity and transformation while implementing narrative and abstract notions. By mapping narrative and structural / reflective territories, his paintings depict landscapes and abstracted story lines in mostly large scale formats.

Klaus Hu has received a fellowship for photography from the Berlin Senate and took part in national and international site-specific competitions like MAXXI Rome, Sharjah Biennale and German Parliament.

The artist works with painting and photography that penetrate and complement each other. The digital archive plays a crucial role as memory and as material source for the compositions of Klaus Hu’s work. The new series “Unsettled Landscapes” is a continuation of previous work, which connects the archival material as quotes within the photographic and painted pictorial space.
