SomoS welcomes Dutch Rotterdam-based photographer Ari Versluis who returns to SomoS for a special one month gallery artist residency. Renowned for his Exactitudes photo series on group identity and fashion codes (developed together with Ellie Uyttenbroek since the early 90’s) his more recent solo project Encounter shifts the focus on more unique attitudes.
During a first extended residency period at SomoS in 2014, Versluis documented self presentation and local street fashion codes from a temporary storefront studio space near SomoS in the Berlin-Neukölln neighborhood. The artist uses his time in April 2017 to add to this multi-cultural and subcultural exploration of SomoS direct neighborhood.
Additional artistic activities of Versluis in Berlin April 2017 include the making of two music videos for the Rotterdam-based “Electronic Emergencies” music label (the first, “What’s Going On (In Your Mind)” by The R, is already published), as well as working on his ongoing preoccupation with the group portrait, documenting groups such as the club crew of Berlin’s “Herrensauna.”
