SomoS welcomes Rotterdam-based visual artist Wendelien van Oldenborgh who stays at SomoS as part of a SomoS’ mini residency. Wendelien has kept close ties to Berlin after her DAAD Residency in 2014, using one of SomoS studios as a base for her Berlin projects.
Wendelien van Oldenborgh works with film/video- and slide installation, subtly reflecting the way history is re-told and imagined. Cultural identity, social issues, and a critical referencing of the Dutch’ colonial past are important features of her work. Wendelien van Oldenborgh recently took part in the São Paulo Biennial (2010), and the Istanbul Biennial (2009). The artist will represent the Netherlands at the fifty-seventh edition of the Venice Biennale, which will take place May 13–November 26, 2017.
