Boris Alexander Knop is a playwright, director and poet based in Berlin. He received his MA from the University of Leipzig where he studied theatrical science and political science. From 2002 on he worked as a director for theatre in Dortmund and städtische Bühnen Münster. In 2007 he started his collaboration with renowned Norwegian-Danish artists Elmgreen & Dragset. Together they produced Drama Queens (text by Tim Etchell) with shows at Städtische Bühnen Münster during Skulptur Projekte, Theater Basel during Art Basel Art on Stage II, Centre Pompidou, Paris during Les Spectacles Vivants and The Old Vic in London during Sculptures on Stage. In Bergen they opened the Festspillene with Kaija Saariaho’s opera L’Amour de Loin.
Knop’s work is imbued with influences from poetry, politics and performance. He directed and produced his own play Deutsch-Afganistan in TISCH – Theater im Schokohof/Acker Stadtpalast, Korean Oh Tae-sok’s Mumiengrab in Kunstraum t27, Catalan Sergi Belbel’s In Gesellschaft von Abgrund, Nelly Goodbye and Cyrano in Städtische Bühnen Münster. Together with Bodo Hartwig he took on Dark Shine for 48 Stunden Neukölln.
He frequently performs his own poems in Fehre6, Feuerpudel, eKamina, SissiKingKong together with writer and performer Thomas Franke. Currently you can read some of their texts at the NachMoskau blog.
Boris Alexander Knop will be executing a performance involving sound, words and space titled ReFugIum in the upcoming group exhibition Personae at SomoS, as part of the 2018 48 Stunden Neukölln Festival.
