Since 1994, Rotterdam-based photographer Ari Versluis and profiler Ellie Uyttenbroek have collaborated intensively, documenting the dress codes of various social groups, first in their highly multicultural hometown Rotterdam, later internationally. Marked by a keen eye for detail and sly humor, the sober and meticulously executed photography series’ inspiration goes back as far as August Sander and the Duesseldorfer Schule photography.

The duo named their series Exactitudes: a contraction of exact and attitude. The photographs have been said to “provide an almost scientific, anthropological record of people’s attempts to distinguish themselves from others by assuming a group identity.”

Versluis/Uyttenbroek’s contribution to SomoS’ first Alter Angle exhibition, 2013, titled “140. What`s up G? – Rotterdam/Berlin 2013” was partly produced at SomoS, and presented at the Made in SomoS residents exhibition in 2014.
