Krefer & Turca

Krefer (b. Curitiba, Brazil, 1987) is a filmmaker and visual artist. His work has been highlighted at the “Translucent” solo exhibition at the Oscar Niemeyer Museum and retrospectives at the FICBIC International Film Festival of Curitiba Art Biennial and the Curta Cinema – Rio de Janeiro International Short Film Festival. Awards include the La Fête du Slip – Gender & Sexuality Festival, the Hong Kong International Mobile Film Awards and the Vivo Mobile Art Festival. He curated the Olhar de Cinema – Curitiba International Film Festival in 2012-2014.

Turca (Brazil, 1989) works a production designer and art assistant for features, shorts and vídeo art pieces. He debuted as a director in the “Action Painting” series, which have been screened at more than 40 film festivals and art events worldwide, and had its GIF version shortlisted at the Transnumériques GIF Awards from the Videoformes Festival.

The “action painting” series, a selection of which is presented at SomoS’ group show Fixation, is their first project together, and Turca’s first as a director.

The “action painting” series presents the artist couple performing sex as a mutual creative act, where the body works either as a tool or a surface. In this first video of the series, she responds to his movements by wildly scratching his back, leaving blood marks that resemble an abstract painting. The second video explores further the couple’s creative, sexual dynamic making use of candle wax to activate the body as a canvas with references to abstract expressionism.
