French visual artist Louie Otesanek has a strong affinity with the history of European Symbolist and Decadent art. While the young painter’s watercolor series Garden of the Bad Hour could be inspired by the 1899 literature classic “The Torture Garden” by the French novelist and playwright Octave Mirbeau, or filmmaker Clive Barker’s excessive visions of bodily transformation, his poignant “Forgotten Families” as presented in his solo show Ewiger Traum – Paintings of Louie Otesanek at SomoS, April 3-17, 2015, are marked by a more poetic, haunted and melancholy mood.
