Open Call for Artists: friXfonds
Open Call for Public Art Interventions
The new initiative for artistic interventions in public space, the FriXfonds – “Fonds für Künstlerische Interventionen im Öffentlichen Raum,” is focused on the Berlin Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district, where the living conditions have radically changed in the last few years. The project aspires to enable an artistic and social debate around the development of the district. Moreover, it also intends to contribute to the artistic base in the Kiez and to act as a counterpoint to its increasing commercialization.
Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg is one of the most dynamic, colorful and vibrant cultural locations. Its attractiveness has risen sharply for very different interested parties and interest groups in recent years. In addition to many positive aspects and a great variety, this increasing attractiveness also causes increasing competition for space and opportunities for realization of projects, as well as other difficulties.
FriXfonds is looking for enthusiastic artists who are actively engaged with the Berlin Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg area and are interested in exploring new ways of dealing with the public space. The project aims to reflect on questions of urban development by calling for artistic and creative proposals to enhance the urban public space.
There is a total fund of 25.000€ that can be destined to a single project or divided into more than one. This grant can cover all the costs of the project and it also supports financially the artist fee and the material costs.
The open call for artists is for local and international artists who can participate individually or as a group. As a requirement, the artistic interventions, participatory creative processes, and other formats have to be dealing with topics closely related to public space, such as gentrification, the various usages of public space, social impact of urban development, increased tourism, among many others. These issues have to be explored compellingly in an artistic format. The call is open to all disciplines as well as interdisciplinary or thematic projects.
Interested artists have until the 15th of June to submit their application on the website https://frixfonds.de/, which offers more information available in German about the prize.
