BERLIN—April 3th, 2017 – Taking place during Gallery Weekend Berlin, April 29th 2017, 7pm, SomoS proudly present “Could that last sentence be the title?,” an audio-visual experience and film screening by Caribbean multimedia artist Natusha Croes (Aruba), who has been an artists in residence at SomoS for the last three months. The Aruba-based artist has been developing musical instruments with an affinity to space and a means of composing that requires body and movement.
Natusha Croes creates soundscapes that emerge from spoken word pieces that she reads out like a personal journey through her practice, using her work and explorative methods as a means of reflection and revelation.
“Could that last sentence be the title?” introduces Croes’ research in the realm of vulnerable spaces, visual poetry and openhearted narrative.
A catalog documenting Croes’ preoccupations and process throughout her three months at SomoS Art House in Berlin will be published and available for the first time this evening.
About Natusha Croes
Born in 1991 in Oranjestad, Aruba, Natusha Croes is a member of a family of musicians.
After participating in many cultural events as a child growing up, she quickly gained a curiosity for other forms of expression and gradually developed her practice in the field of visual arts. She went on to study at Gerrit Rietveld Academy, the Netherlands, in the department of audio visual arts, as well as at Ateliers ‘89, Aruba.
Having returned back to Aruba, Croes participated in a number of exhibitions, conceptualized creative events as well as performed in different music venues in order to bring forward the practice of performance in contemporary art.
During her residency at SomoS, the artist formed a new performative identity that enabled her in developing new narratives surrounding her newfound fascination with ready-made instruments.
Selected by Artslant Magazine as one of Berlin’s most interesting art project organizations, SomoS Art House provides space and resources for the presentation, reflection and production of the arts.
Organizing an Artist-in-Residency program and an ambitious exhibition and event schedule, SomoS closely works with artists, organizers and curators to realize their projects.
SomoS’ mission is to create an international open framework for innovative arts, exhibitions, education and creative cooperation.
Throughout the year, SomoS Art House hosts a residency program for international artists for a three-nine month period. Artists are assisted in the production of their in-house creative projects, leading finally to an exhibition revealing the result of their three-month residency. More Information
