Scope Sessions #81

Artist's Talk & Media Salon

from: 07.03.2019 6:30pm

SomoS is pleased to host the 81st edition of the Scope Sessions Artist’s Talks & Media Salon.

Scope is a meeting point for the creative and the curious, a platform for sharing and learning in an informal setting. Each session, two guest artists are invited to present a project, a concept, a process or an experience. The presentations are short, around 30 minutes and unrestricted in form. Offering a variety of topics and approaches, Scope is about exposure, not for the artist, but for the audience.

In this edition, artists Nahum and Klara Ravat along with the Sensistan Art Museum present their works.

Nahum – Orbital Poetics

A rose on the Moon and the whisper of a forgotten memory. Fire, undisclosed letters and a parliamentary session with poets and dancers: “Orbital Poetics” is an ever-changing performance talk by Nahum where he shares and remixes his artistic work with his research and inspirations. This talk features video works, stories and illusionism to share the artist’s views on art and space exploration.

Nahum’s oeuvre delves deep into the human experience by challenging our perceptions through unusual perspectives. Navigating between the real and the imaginary, his work produces events that reframe the way we understand the world: “I am interested in that point where reality touches the impossible.“ He often employs outer space technologies, illusionism, hypnosis and music to guide audiences into otherworldly journeys to raise critical dialogues about the politics of existence. Nahum’s multidisciplinary work orchestrates a wide range of media including performance, installation, video, music, drawing and storytelling.

Klara Ravat – Experimenting with Scent

Smell Lab
Klara Ravat is an olfactory artist an experimental filmmaker based in Berlin. In her talk, she will present a survey of her work.

By opposing the division between the realm of memory and the realm of experience, Ravat absorbs the tradition of remembrance art into daily practice. By investigating the concept of landscape in an adventurous and exploratory way, she wants to amplify the wonderment of the spectator by creating compositions or settings that generate tranquil poetic images that leave traces and balances on the edge of alienation and recognition. After studying qualitative trend research in Barcelona Klara moved to The Netherlands where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (ArtScience at The Royal Academy of Arts). At the same time she started studying Psychology at the Open University of Catalonia. Klara is the co-founder and director of the Smell Lab, a community project that focuses on the investigation and practice of the art and science of the sense of smell.
