Vorspiel 2019: Affect/Effect – Performance Prosthesis

Within the framework of Vorspiel 2019, the official yearly preliminary program leading up to the Berlin Transmediale, SomoS Art House presents a day of performance art curated by Zander Porter of XenoEntities Network. The presented performances explore the topic of technological tools as prosthetics; interpreting them as enabling-devices for performance and for identity construction within the performative space.

Erin Mitchell – Uncanny Valley

In her installation Uncanny Valley, American Multi-media artist Erin Mitchell transformed SomoS’ exhibition space into an immersive installation that physically recreated the idealized natural imagery of screensavers and desktop wallpapers. Bringing the digital into the analog realm in a literal way, Mitchell encourages us to question our relationships with personal technology and redefine our perspectives and movements within these two often competing realities.
