Wild Lion – Jacob Antony (AUS)
from: 29.03.2019 6:30pm to: 9pm
SomoS Arts Berlin is proud to present “Wild Lion,” a one-off solo performance by Brisbane-based Australian queer artist Jacob Antony, a SomoS Artist-in-Residence, early 2019.
The performance’s title ”Wild Lion” suggests fierceness, courage and power, attributes that are an integral part of queer existence, coming forth naturally from an “other” life, not marked by thoughtless assumptions, and often under pressures that demand much strength.
Set in an intimate environment, “Wild Lion” will explore and confront ideas of gender and sexuality in an explosive visual spectacle. During the performance, a skeptical confrontation of emotional ideology and personal turmoil will enfold.
Jacob Antony’s practice applies an artistic process of gendering and un-gendering that focuses on fluidity, rather than rigid duality. Antony’s own body is often used as subject and material, through a conceptual approach of “peeling away body identity and neutralizing it.” Applying motifs from erotic and traditionally gendered clothing, Antony creates and celebrates fluid expressions of gender symbols and sexual desires.
